Our History
In 1907, young couple Joseph and Anna Parziale packed up their meager belongings and, like many an immigrant before and after them, moved from their small town of Sarno, Italy, to start a new life in the United States. With little more than a big dream and their growing family, the Parziale's eventually settled in Boston’s North End, a neighborhood that had witnessed an influx of Italian immigrants since the start of the 20 the century. Not long after, the Parziale's opened the first pizzeria in all of Boston. Joseph built a pizza oven with his own hands and for over 50 years the family served the community with great food and a reciprocal spirit of hospitality and congeniality. It was a true family business in every sense. Joseph and Anna collaborated on making pizza while their children helped out afterschool and on weekends, waiting tables, cleaning, and eventually learning the trade. When Joseph and Anna were ready to retire from the business, their youngest son Angelo had already ensured their presence in the neighborhood would continue, establishing Parziale Bakery as it exists to this very day. Over the intervening years, the North End has witnessed many changes in its culture and demographics, but one thing has remained steady; the Parziale family have continued to be a small part of this rich history; adapting to the changing environment, if not playing a role in helping to shape it. Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, Parziale's Bakery still supplies bread to many of the local restaurants, and is always the spot where lifelong residents go to buy their bread, pizza, and sweet treats. So, stop in Parziale's Bakery and learn the secret locals have known for over a century: when it comes to bread, pizza, and pastries, nothing beats family, and no family has done it longer or better than us.
